I just commented on Highly Strung and feel compelled to comment on this song as well now that I’m reading the lyrics to the songs on Parade for the first time.
Again, like Highly String, the music is infectiously catchy and the music has a great groove. But again, regarding the lyrics, what in the world Tony. If I’m reading the lyrics right, this is a song about a man murdering his ex-wife as revenge for love? Does anyone else see it any differently, especially with the reference to bail? The one part I don’t get is “I’ll hold my breath until the water lets me out.” Are they waterboarding him in prison? Spandau Ballet is a strange band. On the surface everything is glossy and upbeat but there some strange and sinister sentiments lurking in their lyrics.
