Personally to me this song is about addiction and a parent/child relationship or just an addict struggling to get back to the joys in life. As a parent/child dynamic with the song the part “can’t you hear your baby’s crying now” the parent is lost in addiction (selfishly and empathetically) and the child is with the other parent or a grandparent and the addict is in addiction and not able to be with the child cus of how lost he/she is and empty inside. It’s really dark and sad. Like in Elton John’s rocket man “mars ain’t the kind of place to raise your kids, in fact it’s cold as hell”
