Presumably, I have also written these lyrics, or this lyric. It was perhaps the summer of 1990/91, once. Was still in the Aberdeen/Olympia area as a type of student at Evergreen State College. I imagine that the text has been written by me sitting down by the Wishkah River rest area in Aberdeen, at one of the benches there with a table. Simply sitting there and writing a text, in somekind of a context. The mentioned text could probably be the text for "Come As You Are". Furthermore, I imagine that I also met Kurt's uncle there, Gary Cobain was probably his name. So the word "old" in the text could refer to him as an older person, but not "old enemy". The last-mentioned words could be more special directed to a person with whom the writer may have had a quarrel with, but that person was still welcome, as it were. It is possible that Kurt's uncle came by while I was writing the text, so then maybe it just became "old" instead, in the next verse, hehe. Relative age conditions, if applicable. Otherwise, the text may be quite specifically aimed at a person you are waiting for. I sat there at the picnic area by the Wishkah River, waiting for someone to come. It might have been "Polly" that I was waiting for. Of course it could fit the text, but it could also have been Kurt, but I think more that it could have been "Polly", who I was waiting for. Sat and got a bit bored, and looked forward to being joined by a girlfriend or more persons "of the same age", in the meantime I might have had a chat with Kurt's uncle, hehe. The stanza "Come doused in mud, soaked in bleach", could be some difficult to interpret, mud could refer to mud from the riverbanks, or a type of a facemask. Let`s for the contemporary say it was refering to facemasking, the last mentioned could indicate that it could be directed to a girl, hehe. Will just comment the last said with that, I have myself used face mask, or mud, for periods, but it was especially in connection with the teenagers, where you could have pimples. It was to dry out and get rid of pimples. One could probably buy one's own mud pimple creams like that, from regular grocery stores, I vaguely remember, hehe.
I wrote that the lyric or the poem may have been written down at the picnic area by the Wishkah River when I was sitting there bored, waiting for someone to come by, but it is also possible that parts of the poem may have been written in Kurt's room , which I disposed of as lodged with fam. Mother Cobain's house. I imagine that Kurt may have been a bit angry, jealous, and envious that I got to borrow his room, and that I was, in a way, the new "son" in the house, as an exchange student. This was in 1990/91. Kurt had actually moved out of the house, I think, but now came home when I had arrived, possibly to look after his interests, as well as to say hello if necessary. In the meantime, I had been accommodated in Kurt's room, so it is possible that Kurt was somewhat upset that his room had been occupied. Perhaps some quarrels and disagreements occurred because of this, in addition to other things. The point was that parts of "Come as you are" may have been written in Kurt's room, when I disposed it, lying there. The text may have been a response to my feeling that there could have been something "hostile" and "unfriendly" in the house, in connection with disagreements. In addition to this, I think that mother Cobain had a rather dangerous rottweiler in the house, so I guess I was extra careful in that respect, hehe. So the aforementioned can explain parts of the text "Come as you are, as you were - As I want you to be - As a friend, as a friend - As an old enemy", and more.
I am still so many years after the text was written, unsure of what I meant by the sentences; «Memoria, memoria - Memoria, memoria - And I swear that I don't have a gun - No, I don't have a gun - Well, I don't have a gun». I vaguely remember that I have somehow woken up in Kurt's room, and eventually woke up as if I should have "passed out", and have some type of memory failure, a rather strange experience by the way. Where am I, like, where am I located? Could the questions be, but I still continue with my writings, and maybe write "memoria, memoria", in the poem I am working on. Suddenly, I might hear a woman's voice, wondering if I would like some food, and possibly having it served into the room. But first she wonders if I have a gun, I said no, and, I swear I don't have a gun. Hence the phrases “Memoria, memoria - Memoria, memoria - And I swear that I don't have a gun - No, I don't have a gun - No, I don't have a gun”. So all or parts of the poem may be related to what I wrote inside Mother Cobain's house, inside at Kurt's room, while the memories gradually came back, but as mentioned, it is possible that something was also written down at the picnic area by the Wishkah River, perhaps in anticipation of Polly. Having said that, the entire poem could have been related to Mother Cobain. So the aforementioned additional stories can explain the reason, or be the inspiration for the content of the poem, or the lyrics. These are my current preliminary explanations for the lyrics for "Come as you are". Can mention that Kurt's sister also lived in the house at the time, and that I got to know her as well.
Can also add a type of "third" explanatory version for the lyrics to the song "Come as you are". It is possible that parts of the lyrics may be quotes from Mother Cobain, who, among other things, told me when I was in the room that I could come as I am, or was, and more. Then refer to the sentences; «Come as you are, as you were - As I want you to be - As a friend, as a friend - As an old enemy - Take your time, hurry up - Choice is yours, don't be late - Take a rest as a friend”. It is possible that her mother Cobain said some of these sentences over time, which I then summed up in the poem. Come as you are, take the time you need with more, because it's not that important, but I'm still somewhat uncertain about this last explanation, possibly to a certain extent it could have been like that. In theory, the aforementioned sentences and verses could have been a type of a folk song that was recited by mother Cobain, or me, but I wrote this down back then, and probably made up the text, which also became the lyric to the song "Come As You Are".
