I feel this song is about a new relationship. Two people getting to know each other better through spending time into the night. She's got to work in the morning and because they're just getting to know each other ( and she lives in a one bedroom flat), he went to bed in the tub. Perhaps to spread out (it's been done before). She had no furniture for some reason. Maybe she'd just moved in. Anyhow, when he woke up he was alone, and he made himself comfortable and built a fire in the fireplace for warmth.
