A few random thoughts on this beautiful song. For me this quote adds some context:
"The cosmos is within us. We are made of star stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself." Carl Sagan
We are alive for a brief time, in a wonderful coincidence of order, an arrangement of atoms... once we die our molecules dissociate... we return to the soil...
Ultimately the destruction of the planet by our aging sun will redistribute all our parts throughout the vast night. Some of those atoms may end up coalescing, in time, and potentially forming another star. As has happened countless times over billions of years. As Carl wrote, every atom comprising us and all we see was formed within a star.
To me this song is about appreciating the moment, being alive in an unknowning, uncaring universe, seeing the beauty, and accepting that eventually all our constituent star stuff will return to where it came from.
I think it would make a great funeral song. It's a lovely piece of music too.
