This song is actually sad as hell.

To me it’s about someone that struggled with depression with a partner that had to witness it for god knows how long.

He finally snaps out of it and is trying to convince her to believe him - to be as excited as he is for this brand new lease on life. When she replies, “but it’s much too late for doing this now/we should have done it then..”, he becomes increasingly more desperate in his attempts to persuade her otherwise. She doesn’t buy it. By the end of the song you can hear him turn undeniably angry and unstable with the sudden, “burn down the house/burn own the street/turn everything red and the dream is complete”, and there’s something quite suspect about the way he says at the very end, “throw back your head and kiss it all goodbye”.

Perhaps I’ve been too depressed throughout my life, but at this point in time it really sounds like he’s made a mockery of himself after realizing how much he’s ruined things between them, so he throws a manic fit, and even feels like shooting himself at the very end.

I love it.
