Sky Is Over Lyrics

Ok so I wish I grew up with Serj’s music cause this is incredible, I’ve been getting into it more the past three months. But I’m pretty sure after researching other people’s opinions and watching the music video several times here’s my interpretation, this is going to be controversial btw and people might not believe it but I do :) anyways this is very interesting because in the first line “everybody knows, everybody knows, that you cradle the sun” now we could see this as a religious thing but a lot of Serj’s songs are talking about humanitarian rights and activism. So if we look at it from that perspective he’s definitely seems to be talking directly to the government. Second line which is followed up before hand in the backround “suffer life again” which is interesting, then it’s “living in remorse, sky is over” so living in guilt because now the sky is over. “Don’t you want to hold me baby? Disappointed, going crazy” so I think he’s saying that we live in the moment “hold me baby” and possibly either anyone is being awakened to the truth “disappointed, going crazy”. “Even though we can’t afford the sky is over” so literally don’t have money to fix the problems of our world or in this case sky. “I don’t wanna see you go” possibly he’s talking about the world he doesn’t want to see go. “Behind closed eyes lie the minds ready to awaken you” us being lied to by the media/government are the ones with the “closed eyes” he’s also referring to behind them so I think it’s spiritual also having Jesus on a cross for a split second in the music video specifically during this line so saying that Jesus is the one to awaken those closed minds. “Are you at war with land and all of its creatures?” I think he’s literally asking the government or even us if we are at war with the land and it’s creatures because of what we are doing to it. “You’re not so gentle persuasion as you’ve been known to wreak economies of countries of empires” so I think he really is talking about the government here, saying that they’re not gentle to persuade as they been known to wreak economies, countries, and empires. And the next part is significant because in the music video he then starts drawing lines in the sky. This obviously represents chemtrails and he puts them in the entire sky in the video and they stay in the sky so they aren’t any clouds or smoke that normally disappear. And then he turns around and sings “not even from the sun” this part is significant because remembering the first line of lyrics? it’s drawn back to it. In the music video he doesn’t draw them in a sort of pattern but most like all around the sky but normally with chemtrails the “theory” goes that they use normally a lattice shape in the sky to cover up the sun so we and plant life don’t receive proper sunlight as well. I think he’s literally saying that the chemtrails are “cradling” the sun or covering it up and it’s causing climate issues as well with how we are treating the world as a whole. He could be saying “not even from the sun” because he’s trying to saying the climate problems aren’t coming from the sun because he pointed back up towards the chemtrails in the music video possibly saying what the government is doing to our world is what’s causing our problems to arise. “Don’t you want me to run?” Saying possibly that the actual true problems of climate issues are causing us to run, be scared? And then the song repeats the chorus before ending with the chemtrails in the sky saying “civilization is over” which was part of a small poem he wrote for the album, pretty sure you can find it if you look it up. I noticed just a side note I don’t remember exactly what poem it is but Serj has an incredible poetry book called Cool Gardens and in one of the poems he says “poisoning our air and our food” to a poem specifically towards the government.

Ok now at the very end of the video has a website appear on screen called https://skyisover.net which isn’t active anymore but if you go to the wayback machine and put the link in it, it leads to a website with a bunch of different organizations that Serj wanted people to donate to that help with the cause of bioengineering and climate issues at the time when industrial society was becoming more prevalent . So all in all what I’ve taken is that this song is about our climate and how we are being lied to about the air we breathe in our sky. I also think both users @ItsNotMyProbl3m and @Xero77x had really good points as well. Thank you all for reading my essay.
