This album covers some very heavy emotional material, and Mike's songs have this gentle sombreness to them that the listener really feels. This one is vague enough that anyone can probably relate in one way or another.
I've always interpreted "his plan" as a reference to God. On the one hand coming from a place where there's no faith left but just wishing it were true. If "it" was part of God's plan then that would mean everything is okay. But on the other hand... "it" is not okay... it's not part of any plan, and it's not okay... Just coping with that understanding... that's my interpretation. Acceptance.
Mike's discography taken as a whole is really something truly beautiful.
