Another cryptic but fine song of hers. I cannot find the meaning on Internet so I have to believe in my version. I think she's singing in it about the fame and its consequences. Fame used to be for her like silver, lovelight, even lover's stare (yeah, her typical romantic metaphors) but later it turned out be not so cool - there was a price of it that she had to pay (something like in "Gold Dust Woman"): pressure, demands, bad relationships between many people. Among that she may also be singing how that rock and roll life stood between her and her partner and because of that they couldn't carry on their relationship for it was impossible (something similar to "Belle Fleur"). And at the end of the song she may be singing how she wants to escpae this crazy heavy rock and roll life but it's not so easy to do - she's helpless and stuck. "Why don't you runaway baby?
I told you what to do with your life but you could not save me" - I think she's talking to herself and how she couldn't rescue herself but this line can be also directed to some person (like her lover) she was closed to and who also couldn't save her from that toxic world.
