I started out believing that this song is about long term relationship/marriage. And that that relationship could be interpreted, perhaps, as their relationship to their fans and the industry.
But now I actually hear it as about climate change and humanity's inaction against it, and how pathetic that is. The lyrics make all the sense in the world when seen from that lens, at least to me.
