The apocalyptic imagery in the lyrics is a metaphor for getting older. Take into account that the band members were approaching their 40s by 1985 when this album dropped.

It's a bummer that we're experiencing the worst side of aging but let's have fun all the same. All in all, it's a very optimistic song about getting closer to the grave.
