Cover art for Max lyrics by Paolo Conte

Xogroroth666 1 second ago When I heard this in, was that 1987 or 1988?, on the radio, it gave me a sort of ... impression ... of what this song was about. Now, I do not know any "Italianese", yet, the voice timbre and the music, it just ... "spoke to me". I probably am FAR off from the true meaning of the story told here, but, even with the modern technologies like telegraph and sepia (even black and white) photography around, I went looking for the translation of the song. Yet, I end up at the same interpretation: I will post the lyrics, translation and interpretation hereunder: Paolo Conte – Max Max … era Max. Pi tranquillo che mai … la sua lucidit.

Smettila, Max! La tua facilità … non semplifica, Max!

Max … non si spiega. Fammi scendere, Max! Vedo un segreto … Avvicinarsi qui, Max!

Translation: Max … was just Max. Calmer than usual … in his lucidity.

Stop it, Max! Your ease … does not simplify anything,, Max!

Max, … doesn't explain himself. Let me go, Max! I can see a secret … coming nearer to here, Max!

Meaning: (At least to my interpretation of the song’s lyrics!!!!!) Max… was just Max. A dog being what a dog is. But now he’s calmer than usual (probably quite an energetic one, otherwise? But we just might understand why, later on. IF I got it right, of course.) Dogs are quite clever, aware beings, Max probably even more so.

Max, stop … ! Being calmer than usual, your calmth is not really helpful here.

Max looks at (the) [Dog’s owner [Paolo???]], but does not give any more hints. Now, here, I get the next impression: The dog’s owner is, I think, dying, but the dog keeps him awake, he refuses to let his master go. Even though, as death’s aura embraces him, and he can partially see what lies beyond … .

Thoughts? Am I "onto" something here?
