Still surprised this has no entries. I had two theories on the lyric meaning. First is someone that you look up to, maybe who isn't there with you anymore. You need them BETTER because things where you are...is still the same.
The other part of it might be a feeling of being a stranger to yourself - kind of like an imposter syndrome type feeling. The talk about "healing fame" could also point to the fact that after STS, AFI isn't getting the same press attention ....
