Yes; this song is very underrated, along with a lot of other 90’s country music; to me it’s a treasure trove of amazing songs and great memories. Your mileage may vary. But yeah, this song to me seems to be about being at a crossroads, and it feels like he doesn’t care anymore, he’s giving up, nothing matters anymore so whether it’s one mile or a thousand miles, doesn’t matter. Every where you go, there you are. You can’t really run from anything. I mean you can try but it’s just denying the inevitable and delaying it a bit. Just go ahead and face it head on. No other way to do it, really.

Loneliness is a place you travel to, remember that. No one gets lonely out of bad luck, you have to CHOOSE to be alone in this world. Because everyone; and I mean everyone, is looking for a friend. Especially these trying times. It’s so easy to find a friend nowadays. Just don’t limit yourself and keep an open mind. If you tend to judge people harshly then try and see that we’re all just looking for someone to appreciate and love us. It’s not that hard to see. We’re social creatures, we completely break down without others around. We need each other more than you probably realize so don’t ever choose to be alone jd given the opportunity to not be alone. It’s a lonely life when you’re the only person you interact with. I mean I think I’m pretty cool and awesome but even I don’t enoy spending all my time with myself. That’s insanity.
