I've seen a bunch of people dismiss interpretations with religion included in them. These are valid interpretations as well and in the text, depending on who is reading it, there are many lines that support this interpretation.
"And I can't pretend anymore to be a part of this
And I'll leave my burdens at the door
But I'll never walk here again" is one of these.
Based on the absence of answers retrieved from searching, perhaps they looked inside themselves and looked for answers from God there and retrieved none and eventually decides to stop pretending to also be deserving of God, leaving all of the burden coming from something in the sense of what Pascal's wager argues for and never return there again. Religion should be followed by those who actually believe it, for those who don't find all of its content a burden upon their mind and it is better for them to drop it. This is just one interpretation, there is no correct one just like there is no correct way to interpret religious scripture.
