Stolen Prayer Lyrics

To me the song is about clinging to the last remnants of youthful idealism but accepting the demands of pragmatism in our adult lives.

The young always want to change the world in big, dramatic and instant ways. They want make to make the world fairer, to make leaders and politicians more accountable and institutions more responsive and all in grand and heroic ways.

As we grow older we say to our more cautious inner voices we will 'take your words and try them on' because accepting the limitatons of 'an old straitjacket' and a conformity to 'one size fits us all' rather than embracing differences and new ideas is the place our head tells us is necessary but our hearts say 'ain't the place to go'.

In the end the song is about us never truly accepting the realities we all have to come to terms with as adults and hoping we can make a small difference to the world. But not as the firebrand revolutionary leaders we once dreamed of being but in our small 'stolen prayer' that our little acts can accumulate and make a big difference.
