think it's a ballad for a woman and his tenor vocals really are pwnage here,
esp even as he got a bit later on in years.. what a legendary grunge singer songwriter...
anyways i really think it's about confiding and Knowing his woman to a brilliant point and then the fall from grace in the relationship (whoever may be to blame, Chris' heart was always there..) and the way that he was placed in a role of deception rather than liberation .. even in the song you can see he knows the other's position but this is surely a rock poet's ballad for the ages..
