Cover art for Two Coins lyrics by City and Colour

The last line of the second verse: this should say: “So I can pay the boatman’s toll” (not poor man's).

It is a reference to Greek mythology, where the souls of the dead need to pass the River Styx in order to make it to the afterlife, Hades. Charon is the boatman who ferries the souls across the river into Hades. Placing two coins on the eyelids of the dead ensured safe passage into the afterlife, as they have “paid the boatman’s toll”.

He’s referring to the fact that once he passes away, he hopes that he will have impacted enough people for someone to metaphorically place those coins on his eyelids, ensuring safe passage into the afterlife.
