I think she's speaking about herself. She's the "dark horse". I recently found out that she is interracial (Trinidadian and [white] Canadian). I heard it said by her that she looks white, but is actually black. In America, the way it's been for centuries is if you have any "black blood" in your genes, then you're in reality black (regardless of your skin tone). I think she's saying that despite society's stereotypes, taboos, and small-minded views, she will believe in herself and shine through.
