Suns/stars eventually form red giants once all of their hydrogen is spent and they 'die'. Possibly taking this too literally, but this appears to be an obvious metaphor for progression in life. New beginnings and opportunities present themselves, even after drastic change or death has occurred.

Kingdom come is a biblical term used to denote the 'next world', or more commonly heaven/the afterlife. Once again, an apparent reference to progression and change.

Ghosts are those who have died, but not yet crossed over into the afterlife. In a way, they're trapped in a sort of limbo. In other words, they're caught between the middle, between life and death.
