Thank you Daniel, for an honest song about the horrors of addiction, the twisted life it leaves, and the enlightenment you may find if you can live through it. Thank you for turning what must have been absolutely desolate emptiness into something beautiful and letting me hear it. Thank you for validating everyone that has made the choice to not cling to some low-hanging dogma as a lifeline, even if it does come clothed in the raiments of childhood teachings, but to look closer at who walks beside it - the REAL maker. Thank you for not giving the Maker a name, though that hasn't stopped some from claiming her as their own. Thank you for refusing to work the fields of a mythical figure created to justify oppression and social inequity and for refusing to turn away from the real evil. Thank you for calling out the Bros that exploit suffering to gain control of people's minds and hearts with empty promises that one day they will fly away to a better place, when their wings are broken and bloody from banging at the door of a better place and they are clearly homeless so would probably be happy with any place that's warm and dry. Thank you for letting us know that the Maker has seen those flaming swords guarding paradise from mere mortals, and that her eyes are burning with them. Guess she's pissed. Most of all, thank you for the subtle warning that they can't keep this up. After all, you were once in that river and you rose up, so they better watch out - the whole dam might just bust.
