Sounds like he had more than one “ true love” Probably left his real love for someone else and that someone else Dumped him now he’s alone…. Now he wants to drown himself in the bottom of the ocean. Now he’ll end up going back again to somebody whom he May have flirted with her a few months sexually and thinks he loves but she does not truly love him. Sadly he will probably end up with this person for sake of not being alone for the rest of his life now he’s ruined his entire life.
