The Lizards Lyrics

I think this song is an allegory to the conspiracy theory of the illuminati popularized by Dan Brown’s novels I believe that Trey was reading a Dan Brown novel and incredulous of the conspiracy theories around the illuminati whereby lizard brain elites are running politics the economy and business to the detriment of normal humans. The song speaks of the help and friendly book and all those who possess it are the crooks and the race of lizard people who do things that smart people don’t normally do. Ironically the saving of Rutherford by a lizard like a beast presupposes that there will always people who choose scapegoating rather than taking responsibility for their own lives and actions. My worship of the great hero Rutherford in the song is akin to my love of Phish’s complex musical rhythms and insightful lyrics. Lizards is one of my personal all time favorites and I look forward to the day I can hear this song live!
