I believe this song is about how consumerism has made average people have the ability to mimic a counter culture (such as punk) that they do not represent or come from. People can dress and present themselves in so many different ways when none of them are really their true selves. They are just ripping off cultures and countercultures looks to look "cool" or in style. For example, rockstar looks, punk, streetwear (ripping off celebrities), and notably skate culture\'s aesthetics (thrasher hoodies worn by people who don\'t know what thrasher magazine even is). This generation of consumers essentially bought identities of other countercultures and people with clothing and mimicking their actions ("cigarettes to skinny jeans").
