I'm not sure if this is Sharon's own story, but I'll just tell how I feel like how it would be if she was telling from her own perspective with a male partner(for sake of simplicity).
I feel like this is a story about her being in love with another person, however he keeps seeing her without returning the same love. She's hopeful he will one day realize whatever it is that they have, and love her back genuinely - however she knows realistically it's doomed anyways, she just wants him to finally end it and she'll hopefully one day be over it.
Her(or his) mom and dad still love her, and unlike the love she receives from him, it's "True and kind".
When they are together, she's wondering why he hasn't left her yet, with lines like "You don't leave me now. Do you love me back?".
She seems to have reluctantly accepted the fact that the relationship may indeed have no future, with lines like "I don't see you back", however this hurts her, since "One day I'll be fine with that".
She is still however hopeful the other person will one day realize the love they have, and return it one day. "Don't leave me now, You might love me back."
She knows the other person must end it, since she can't. "You gotta see how we can see this out". She hopes afterwards he will realize all that they had "You'll see all the love we'll keep", and that they couldn't make it to a real relationship. "Gotta see that we couldn't be there". And she'll be fine with that.
