Annie Lennox is a gorgeous, and a powerful, angelic singer. Signed, Capt Obvious.
The song leaves me wondering what the relationship was actually founded on. Was it tradition, status, money, lust, infatuation, etc...? The options are many. One thing for sure is that the relationship is not actually founded on is "love" (whatever that is). Why? The singer states "I don't love you anymore, I don't think I ever did". At first, I thought those words were spoken out of cruelty. The more I thought about it, it seemed rather to be an honest answer to a sad realization. The singer discovered that love was never actually part of their relationship. It is unknown as to whether or not the singer lived in a false state or in some illusion, but now finds the element of love to be an important aspect of a relationship. Clearly the singer is tired of being with a self-absorbed partner which is likely the cause of the awakening to have love, and the singer is leaving this loveless relationship and is moving on.
