I get strong Manson family vibes from this song, perhaps because so many lines evoke southern California and the reality, or other side, of what is advertised about it. Burning forest, poisoned ocean, a shallow teenager, an addicted pop star, the takedown of John Lennon and Roger Waters... all to a very upbeat, Beach Boys-esque tune. Elvis has so many brilliant songs that this one (the whole album, in fact) evaded me for a really long time, but it's come to be one of my favorites.
