This song has always intrigued me, and made me wonder what it was about.
The only thing that occurs to me is that it seems to be referring to two separate people - "you" and "she". Which made me wonder if it is about a grown-up child leaving home for the first time ("She's very young to go so far away"), and the subsequent breakup of her parents who only stayed together for the child. This ties into the papers to be signed and "On Sundays and holidays".
But this is only a guess, and the song could be about anything. I still love it, though.
