When Elton and Bernie were stating out, their manager/coordinator, Steve Brown, was the son of the Salvation Army officer, Fred Brown, who was based at the Salvation Army in Oxford Street, London. Elton and Bernie would sometimes stay over at the Centre, as it was close to Wardour Street, the centre of the music industry in London. Fred Brown was subsequently forced out of the Salvation Army due to his radical approach towards evangelism, which attracted a large number of young people to the Church.
