I interpret this song as a song about a free woman, who was once deeply in love but found her freedom, and she is truly happy and at peace now. But, of course this song was ACTUALLY inspired by the child that Stevie was pregnant with at the time (Don Henley’s child, she had an abortion). A very interesting story... the original song was actually about 16 minutes but she had to cut it under seven, but again it was cut to under five minutes. A very powerful song, everything is perfect.
