Monoliths Lyrics

This song expresses opioid/heroin addiction in such a unique and perfect way. While similar songs, like the Velvet Underground’s “Heroin,” share the isolation of monoliths, the velvets are desperate and panicked while LP is simply resigned to his habit. When Pundt sings “one of these days, I’ll come around,” the music swells in celebratory crescendo— in the addict’s mind, thinking about getting clean is almost as good as actually doing it. But the truth is, he loves the drug. He doesn’t want to change. Thus, “I’ll come around” gradually negotiates its way to “I hope I come round.” Just one of many concessions the addict makes as their “Monolith” consumes their entire life.
