Happiness Lyrics

What the artist means Happiness is subjective, and Taylor doesn't look like she's willing to let anyone take hers away. She's crooning about being up a tree, but now that she's down she can see all her flaws back in the day. She wonders why she was still dancing when the music stopped, and how she still hasn't met the new her. There would be happiness when she discovers her hidden self, there would be happiness in her lover when she says happily ever after. She's calling him out though since it looks like he has changed with time. Now that he left her in the lurch, she hopes that his new woman would be a beautiful fool. She's not mincing words here, as she reminds her ex-lover time and time again, that he'll never find someone as good as her. Even though she can't make all her pain go away by making him the villain, there's no harm in trying right? She's seeing everything so clearly now, what they shared was never really worth it. All she wishes him is happiness if he can find it, however.

What the song means to me The track is a contemplative one, it sees Taylor go back in memory lane, and mourn a relationship that wasn't meant to last. Rather than move on to other things, she wishes that he finds happiness (utter heartbreak like the one he placed on her), only then would she achieve closure. She's doubling down on one of her most frequent themes, and she's not letting sleeping dogs lie. The track is well produced, well versed, and surprisingly menacing. I will give this song a rating of 7/10.
