It seems to be a reference to snow white and maybe sleeping beauty, but more symbolically. The apple represents the original sin, and the 7 dwarfs also represent the 7 deadly sins, lots of biblical allusions etc... so here the apple is the original sin and the needle could be reference to sleeping beauty etc...
The Walt Disney versions are somewhat dark beneath, but the what is interpreted are lies for children, which could be a reference to the lies.
The needle also could be the life line and a broken needle is a broken life line which connects to the record player imagery as well, the needle of the record player. The needle is what keeps the record playing, or keeps it alive etc...
