What the artist means
On ‘peace’, Taylor starts over a robotic feely beat that sees the scene set by the instrumental intro. She sings about coming of age and how previously she was worried about taking big decisions which now seems to be a thing of the past. She sings about being a fire and I can't agree less, she talks about being a friend for those that need her and that raised a few eyebrows. The beauty of this track is how she lets her voice fade stylistically into the background as she slowly sketches a picture that only real ones can understand. She also takes a line to diss her adversary Kanye West with the lines, there's robbers in the East and clowns to the West, what a subtle jab! She continues with the melancholic feeling of the last song and doubles down on the nostalgia. Not one to overdo it, she slowly lets the beat close out the song.
What the song means to me
The song is a soft folk classic in the making and sees Taylor shed off her previously impenetrable exterior. It sees her admitting to some mistakes and facing head on some inefficiencies. It also sees her face up to adversity and throw subtle jabs at a billionaire superstar adversary. The song gives me incredible courage and I can't be any less grateful to Ms. Swift. I will give this song a rating of 7/10.
