My guess is Weinstein is just one of many of his type who have been around for as long as their has been a film industry and probably many like him in vaudeville and the English musichall.
I remember watching an old British movie set at a music hall where the new girl chosen to join the chorus gets told as new girl she is expected to have sex with the man in charge before every show til another girl leaves.
