I kind of like to think the song is about the late Roy Buchannan, legendary Telecaster player and noted for having substance and mental health issues....sweetheart of a guy, but could be a 'mean old bastard" too...died way too young, suicide in a jail cell. Google him, maybe watch him play "The Messiah Will Come Again" live on you tube. ...he was a genius. Spent a lot of time in LA, came from real rural and humble farm country though.
