I cry at the fact about how important the Strokes were in music history when "Is This It" was released. Every track, Is This It, and The Modern Age, and Barley Legal to Hard To Explain, and my personal favorite, this one, are filled with the greatest rhythms by Fab, Al, and Nikolai, phenomenal leads and soloing by Nick, and of course, the one and only Julian, singing passionately and constantly.
I love Soma. The G, G, G opening by Al, the simple but melodic riff Nick plays on low, and the booming bass and kickdrum atop of it. But Julian really shows off his timing and "fills." For example, during the chorus when he says, "In your eyes..." and at the ending, with "And that's it..," it is beautiful and perfect. In general, the song is about one person, a love interest, and about how she or he is the main purpose in he or she's life. No one can top the one that they love.
"Is This It" changed the world forever. All the skaters and high school dropouts selling weed on the streets and partying at clubs in downtown metropolitan areas could relate and listen to the tracks of the Stokes's debut with rich, high-class civilians who barley worked. It is truly amazing how they changed the world.
