Ok so I am a single mom with three children in their 30’s. It was a very hard row to hoe- but I don’t have one regret- my children are successful- and although I did not have time to really get to know them, I did spend my all in preparing them, and NOW I am getting to know them.
I am also an orthodox Christian- so this song has two meanings for me- the first is rooted in my worldview.
We’re burning out we’re burning down, We’re the ashes on the ground “
It’s haunting. It’s an affirmation of our mortality- yes I must see that my life has an end- it is soon- is that negative? No- but it’s real, and that drives me all the more to action. “‘‘Tis only one life, twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last!”
For all our striving- is it for Christ? If so we will recieve our crown.
If 15 or 57- we’re burning out we’re burning down. We have one chance, and then- eternity.
“If we could turn the hours back in time you know- I’ll be running in circles for you”
ThIs is me speaking to my children now- helping them to see that I was and am running in circles for them- I gave my all and now pray for them- I spent my life to set them free. This is my meaning.
Enjoy this beautiful song sung by a soulful voice to effect your eternity!
@CirCles2, that’s so beautifully stated. Yes, I feel the combination of Einaudi’s composition and Greta’s vocal is too powerful to be about a single human relationship. It feels much more cosmic. There’s more transmitted here than the words and music would belie. Much more. A mother’s love, her own measure of mortality — that’s closer to the truth. Whether her love or His, there’s truth in all of it.
