I say that it's clear this one is about loving somebody whose parents don't love you. That significant other may love you back but it's hard because that person may feel that they've got to either fight their parents or reject you.
The main character is saying don't give in to your parents, or perhaps even further, don't be swayed by other people: they can't separate us, I won't let it happen, keep the faith in us.
A point of interest is that these lyrics do not specify that this significant other is a female. By saying the door opens both ways, the door opens outward, this may well be alluding to same sex love, and all its associated challenges.
Your father and mother... remember each other and tear you from me. Perhaps because you and me are different than that father and mother paradigm.
Somebody else may have a better grasp of writing and interpretation of the lyrical genius this group kicks out just as easy as they do great riffs.
