I literally cannot believe anyone would make excuses for this song. What is it about? It is about a man with literally no conscience, who was perfectly willing to ruin the lives of two women, making excuses for his behavior, and for why his mistress should be willing to go away quietly and remember him fondly, despite his despicable behavior. Truthfullly, it should be "black eyes" for what the mistress and the wife leave him with as they walk out the door. A man who behaves like this deserves to be pilloried, or worse.
