I have to say that it is about her addiction. As a recovering addict I can tell you that letting go of them it's heartbreaking. I know it doesn't make sense to those who haven't experienced it but it's the truth. I was in love with my drug. It was worse than any relationship ending I have ever had. It's like losing the only thing that makes you feel safe, loved, confident, beautiful, and even capable. It's like being comforted by your mother when you are a crying infant.
Point is everything she says in her song and they way she says it, like even "there's no lighting up to shine." It's so perfectly put. I only felt like I shined when I was high. Or where she talks about all the things that you said, it could be about a dude or metaphorically that drugs promise you everything while taking everything.
I also agree with the Dad thing. There is nothing worse than having your dirty laundry aired by family. While your trying to get help or find some way to be a functioning human.
