That they only have their own best interests at the forefront of their decisions and don't care how their actions will effect others. And going into the situation naïve, and therefore unprepared, is essentially like showing up to a gunfight with a knife. It's so much harder to turn away from someone you trust, cared about, or even love. It's about almost losing yourself in this bad/negative relationship because your feelings have blinded you to the fact that they're manipulating & hurting you.
