I am a long time wanderer. Other wanderers i have met fall under Owen's description here. Alcohol plays a huge part in a persons life who has not had a smooth passage. Many stories fill my mind of suffering and abuse that culminate in self pity and self destruction. I can be in a small town in France or Spain, there is always the person needing someone to reach out, to hand them a moment of faith when there moments are desperate, you can see it in their eyes. Never pass a person who has not asked your help but clearly needs it. Just one little gesture from the haves gives the have nots a sense of well being and a little hope. This song for me explains in simple terms the suffering loneliness of individuals, their brief escape from that, and the continued circle of life that would be a whole lot more meaningful if we just cared for each more than we do now, and fed the cat on a regular basis, because we might just come back as one in the next life
