Copper Wish Lyrics

I believe this song is lamenting physician assisted suicide or perhaps just suicide in general, as a way of dealing with the problem of pain and suffering in the world.

Throwing out the baby with the bathwater is an old term referring to accidentally getting rid of what you like in the process of getting rid of what you don't like. In the context of this song, the "water" is the pain in suffering and the "babe" is the redemption in suffering. In an attempt to relieve all pain in suffering, we have succumbed to allowing assisted suicide, but in the process, have we lost the meaning and redemption in suffering?

Besides flipping the phrase "baby with the bathwater" backwards because it rhymes better, I think they did it also because as it turns out, the thing we want to get rid of--the suffering--ends up being the thing that should be treasured. The bathwater is actually the baby.

The refrain "But just wait for me I come not to erase but be Wait for me The purpose from the pain" is a plead from Jesus. He didn't come to erase pain. But he suffered and died on the cross (God himself suffered and died!) so while he didn't give us an explanation for pain, he entered into it alongside us and he promises to turn the suffering into good.

"What if we had never met and we Annihilate our brokenness? Would we lose our greatest gift?"

What if the person suffering had never heard about Jesus and in despair ended his life to end the suffering? Could suffering actually be a gift? After all, we are called to take up our cross and follow him. Deep stuff.
