The lyrics printed at the top of this thread aren't precisely what we hear on the recording by Paul McCartney in this obviously self-referential song. Sometimes it goes simply "I dee I dee [my spelling phonetic] I did" unlike what's printed here. I've often poked around the internet for comment about "I dee I dee I did" in this song, but nowhere have I found comment. I continue to wonder about my idea that it's a pun on "I.D." as in identification. Hence, the whole line means something like "My identity equates to what I did," couldn't we say?

@DonnyYork I think McCartney is spelling out did. "I d - I - d I did."
