I don't see Eugene going on a "normal" date. He might be referring to the fact that he will challenge her sense of normalcy by letting himself go to the radical side of his personality. And "provided of course you will ever make it through" being that he will be asking her to cross the line out of her comfort zone. In the process, he will also deal with his own issues of being out of control/radical. Definitely NOT GOING TO BE A NORMAL DATE. He considers himself to be the cure for her bland normalcy. Does she know what she's getting into?
