i disagree that this song is about halsey falling in love with a person that is with someone. to me the song is about halsey falling in love with someone but is unsure about herself and having trouble with herself.
like the line “I promised myself i wouldn’t let you complete me” the person in a way is helping fix her, but she doesn’t want that. she wants to move on with her issues with herself because that’s how she’s use to it. and if that person hurts her, she will lose herself again.
then the line “because second’s not the same” isn’t coming in second to this person and they’re lover, but coming in second to herself after this person. and she hates it, it feels wrong.
and “i’m sorry but i fell in love tonight. i didn’t mean to fall in love tonight” is her talking to herself.
