I've been trying to analyze this song.. I think it's about how people in the know (or popular people; those who spread gossip) are just people. He's rushing them, telling them to go back home. However, the people who are important to him (Kathy in the sun and Lester) are the people who he is happy to see because he genuinely likes them. I think Mr. Moonlight is someone he mentions who would never fall for gossip?? I think it's trying to say that you only have to care about those who you are fond of; and not care about popularity.
