I didn’t go deep into his catalog but Howard Jones has some really excellent singles in the mid-eighties. I thought his songs were poppy, immediate, but also thought-provoking.
It seemed more pronounced in the nineties, with the “Alternative Revolution”, when Stuff like FEED the Tree was an example of what could be heard in rotation on radio (yes, Modern Rock Stations, but still...), but similarly, HJ was a good example of 80s synth-pop, which became a pop hit.
