I take a completely different meaning from this song than most. I think he's talking about his own life: what he wanted to accomplish at different points of time, and how his expectations for each of those moments were ultimately not met; at least partially because he was unable to ever truly give his love to others. The song ends the same way it started, implying that the first decision led him down the path of his own demise.
Wicked twisted road literally refers to his desire to leave town. The lyrics make sense, specifically because the age mention. The road/traveling was tiring and was never as fulfilling as he had originally hoped.
Castle in the sky refers to his desire to become famous. He was able to do this, but missed out on other things as a result; namely love/family.
Wild sinful night is pretty self explanatory if you take it literally. The late nights were about the thrill of the night rather than a sustainable future. The late nights became old and he couldn't find love while balancing his desire to live for the night.
Fearless driving rain is the most difficult, but I believe this is where he finally found love and possibly even started a family with that person. I think fearless driving rain is also fairly literal and refers to his uneasiness with how repetitive his life had become on a day to day basis. As a result, he created relationship battles out of thin air and would frequently “storm out of the house”. One evening, when he left, there was a 'fearless driving rain’. In that moment, he was scared to lose his life and ultimately his love. Unfortunately, he was never able to reconcile the relationship.
Angry painful song is both literal and literalistic. Literalistic: He ultimately never found love/had a family which in a sense, he desired by leaving town in the beginning of the song. It's also why the first verse is repeated at the end of the song. He ultimately regrets at least some of the things he did. Literal: He had never had as big of a song as he wanted to and felt that it was because of the decisions he had made earlier in his life. Ironically, this was their biggest song as a group and likely will be forever because it is based on his experiences/regret.
The first verse is repeated because it was the turning point that ultimately affected all the other decisions he made and brought him to this point.
